GENERAL Secretary of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R), Amna Ally, is expected to be released from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) today, Tuesday, at the end of a 48-hour observation period.

Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle on Monday, Opposition Chief Whip and PNC/R executive, Christopher Jones, shared that all is well with Ally, who fell ill on Sunday during a humanitarian exercise in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).

“[The] GPHC is keeping her there for 48 hours for observation, but as at yesterday [Sunday] afternoon, she was in high spirits, speaking, no shortness of breath or anything of that sort. She was as per normal, but the doctors out of an abundance of caution, want to keep her for observation. So she should be discharged [Tuesday],” Jones told this newspaper.

A former Minister of Social Protection, Ally, had fallen ill on Sunday while in Essequibo, when she was among members of her party who were on a humanitarian mission in the Pomeroon to deliver aid to persons who have been affected by flooding in that region.

Members of the A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) coalition, of which the PNC/R is the largest member, had taken the decision to use their $25,000 from the COVID Relief Grant to make donations to the persons in the lower Pomeroon villages.

According to Jones, the situation developed due to Ally having forgotten to take her medication on the visit.
“What lead to her episode, is that on the trip to Essequibo, she had forgotten her medication at home, and as a result of not having her medication, that lead to the shortness of breath and so forth,” Jones said.
As result of the situation, Ally was rushed to the Suddie Hospital, where she was given her necessary medication; she was later medivac to the city and admitted to the GPHC.
