Women granted bail for Christmas Day fight

THREE Agricola, East Bank Demerara women who were allegedly in a fight on Christmas Day, on Monday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on assault charges, and were each released on $10,000 bail by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus.

Georgiana Barry, Kim Bumbury, and Destiny Deally pleaded not guilty to their respective charge when it was read to them.

The first charge, which was read to Barry, alleged that she, on December 25 last year at Caesar Street, Agricola, Greater Georgetown, unlawfully assaulted Deally.

Deally, it is alleged, assaulted Barry so as to cause her actual bodily harm.

Bumbury, on the same date and at the same location, unlawfully assaulted Barry, so as to cause her actual bodily harm.

According to the facts mentioned to the court by Prosecutor Austin, the three women are known to each other. Barry and Deally reside in the same house, while Deally’s husband is Bumbury’s cousin.

On the day in question, Deally made a statement which offended Barry, and an argument ensued between them. The argument later turned into a physical altercation.

Bumbury, who witnessed the fight, intervened, and later became a part of the brawl. She allegedly assaulted Barry. The matter was reported to the police, and the women were arrested and charged.

The matter was adjourned until February 15.
