Young mother dies in Coverden accident

AN accident involving a canter truck and a car on the Coverden Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on December 31, 2020, resulted in the death of a young registered nurse who has been identified as 26-year-old Danata Damon.

She was the mother of a baby boy and resided at Kuru Kururu on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway. Police Headquarters in a statement noted that the driver of the canter – a 33-year-old male of Enmore, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was speeding north along the road and swerved from a pothole when he lost control and crashed head on with the car, which was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road.
The accident occurred around 17:00hrs and the car was being driven by a male of Block ‘X’ Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD; Damon was a passenger in the front seat.

The drivers of the vehicles, along with two other occupants of the canter and Damon, were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

Damon succumbed to her injuries hours later; she was a registered nurse attached to the GPHC.
