Flashback! Guyana Jaguars captain Leon Johnson congratulates Clinton Pestano during a regional game.

EXCITING all-rounder Clinton Pestano has recovered from a knee injury and is confident of returning to the national side.
Pestano missed the entire 2020 Regional Four-Day season due to the injury. However, over the last couple of months, he has put in a lot of gym work and is back to full fitness at least for white-ball cricket.

“Yea I am fully fit and ready to resume some competitive cricket,” the 28-year-old said.
The strongly-built Pestano played four matches last season and got two wickets, but it was October 2018, where he dominated. The Berbician was the leading wicket-taker for Guyana in that tournament, with fifteen dismissals in nine matches at 18.00 and an economy rate of 4.21.
During that tournament he had joined an elite group of bowlers who achieved a hat-trick during the 43-year history of 50-Over cricket after his match-winning performance against the hosts Trinidad & Tobago Red Force.

He became only the second seamer behind Kieron Pollard to achieve such a feat.
Ex-Trinidad & Tobago/West Indies spinner Rajindra Dhanraj, Anthony Martin, the Antiguan leg-break spinner and mystery spinner Sunil Narine were the last bowlers to achieve the exploit. “Definitely I would love to be back in the national setup, “he said.
The senior national selectors of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) will announce the 14-man squad early next month for the Regional Super50 Cup, scheduled for

February 4-27 in Antigua and Barbuda, and Pestano stands a good chance for a comeback.
Meanwhile, only the six main franchises – Guyana Jaguars, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, Jamaica Scorpions, Barbados Pride, Windward Islands Hurricanes and Leeward Islands Volcanoes – will be a part of next year’s tournament.
Defending Regional Super50 champions, West Indies Emerging Players, will not be able to defend their title.
More so, with the reduced fixture, the tournament will be played over one round with five matches per team. (Rajiv Bisnauth)
