-NGSA top performers honoured

THE Region Two administration on Wednesday presented 19 pupils with Alcatel preloaded tablets and several primary and secondary school headteachers with 25 laptops and 11 smart television sets. The devices totalling close to $3M were procured by the region under its capital expenditure.

During a simple handing-over ceremony held in the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) boardroom, Regional Executive Officer (REO) Devanand Ramdatt said the region is delighted to invest in education delivery. He congratulated the students, pupils, and teachers who were beneficiaries.
He also urged teachers to ensure that the maximum number of children benefit from the initiative.
More gadgets are expected to be handed over next year.

Region Two Chairperson Vilma De Silva, while noting that with the current pandemic e-learning is being promoted, called on teachers, pupils and students to use the gadgets wisely. She used the opportunity to congratulate several students for their outstanding performances at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA).
De Silva said that the RDC will be working assiduously with the Department of Education to ensure that learning takes place in the region through the provision of the necessary resources.

Meanwhile, District Education Officer for secondary schools within the region, Shondelle Hercules, said the tablets presented to the region’s top 10 NGSA performers is the department’s way of showing appreciation for the children’s performances.
Sotana Singh, Chaveana Durga, Ted Fraser, Destiny Garraway, Shaunessy, Simon, Tasheanna Persaud, Nezam Singh, Parvendra Tirbinin, Lizzianna Singh and Tieambe Moore are the region’s top NGSA performers.

Additionally, Grade Six pupils of Martindale, Lilydale, Friendship, Malborough, Hackney, Wakapoa, Akawini, Jacklow, and Abrams Creek Primary schools were given tablets to assist with the upcoming NGSA examination. Thereafter, they are expected to return the devices to their respective schools.
Primary Schools that received television sets are Jacklow, Siriki, Abrams Creek, Kabakaburi, Ulele, St Monica, and Akawini.
Praising the administration for the kind gesture was the region’s top NGSA performer, Sotana Singh. In her remarks, she said she is very happy to be the recipient of a tablet, which she will be using to do home studies during the pandemic.
