Sinclair, Motie eager to showcase their talent

By Rajiv Bisnauth

TWO Guyanese cricketers, Kevin Sinclair and Gudakesh Motie, who are part of this year’s US Open T20 Cup, see their participation in the five-day tournament, as another opportunity to showcase their rich talent. Speaking to Chronicle Sport via social media yesterday, both Berbicians expressed their desire to make it count, adding that the eagerness to showcase their prodigious talent to the cricketing world remains top priority. Sinclair, the off-spinning all-rounder, who rose to prominence during last year’s Regional Super50 where he played a significant role in helping West Indies Emerging Players to title honours, is keen on ensuring his goals are met. “I have goals for this tournament which is to perform well in any role that I am given. My plans are to perform in any task that will benefit the team,” he

stressed. On the other hand, Motie, the left-arm spinner, pointed out that the tournament has offered a timely opportunity for his career. Both players are also keen to use the tournament to ensure their fitness stays on par despite the current lack of on-field activities, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Apart from the duo, other Guyanese players who will take part in the tournament are: left-handed batsman Assad Fudadin, leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, fast bowler Ronsford Beaton, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Paul Wintz, Trevon Griffith, Ashmead Nedd, Sherfane Rutherford, Anthony Bramble, Christopher Barnwell and Derwin Christian. The tournament, which is being played at the Central Broward County Stadium in Florida, will offer young American players the chance to rub shoulders with some of the big names in the game. The 12th edition, which is being sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) will see the top two teams from each group progress to the semi-finals. Eight teams – 22 Yards Sultan, US All Stars, Somerset Cavaliers, Samp Army, Brampton Pacers CC, Atlanta Param Veers, Punjab Blues and Afghan Zwanan CC – will compete over five days for the trophy, with as many as three matches being played every day.
