Policeman on $150,000 bail for rape of teen

A POLICEMAN has been placed on $150,000 bail on a ‘sexual activity with a child’ charge when he reappeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

During his previous appearance on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, the policeman was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison by Magistrate, Rondel Weever.

However, during his reappearance he was required to plead to the charge, to which he pleaded not guilty. The policeman denied that during the month of December 2019, at a city location, he engaged in sexual penetration of the teen while knowing, or could reasonably have been expected to know that she was 13 years old and was his cousin.

According to the facts, the child stated that she exited the shower and proceeded into the bedroom, wrapped in her towel. She further stated that the accused entered the bedroom a few minutes later and had unprotected, vaginal sex, with her.

It is alleged that during October 2020, the accused, once again made attempts to engage in sexual activity with the child. However, on this occasion, the child was able to fend-off the accused and had managed to record a short video of him trying to remove her pants. The matter was reported and the accused was arrested and charged. The matter was adjourned until Monday, December 28, 2020.
