THE Civil Defence Commission (CDC), on Saturday, distributed over 335 food hampers, and cleaning hampers, along with 720 bottles of vitamin C tonic to the Deputy Toshao of Orealla and Siparuta, Randy Herman.
Herman expressed gratitude on behalf of all the villagers and councillors to the CDC for what he sees as “a timely assistance” since the communities face an uphill battle to return to a COVID-free status, the Department of Public Information (DPI) reported.

Orealla and its satellite village, Siparuta, located in East Berbice-Corentyne (Region Six), 33 miles South of Crabwood Creek in the Corentyne River – has recently experienced a surge in COVID-19 infections, which has led to a complete lockdown of the villages.
The COVID-19 task force, the Ministries of Health and Amerindian Affairs and the CDC are collaborating to stem the spread and provide relief to the residents.
Also on hand to collect the supplies were Management Development Officer, John Ramsingh and Liaison Officer, Eyon Boyal of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs; and Village Councillor, Shondalene Russel.
Captain Hubern Collins of the CDC noted that the government agency continues to lead the COVID-19 relief response to vulnerable citizens across Guyana.
He appealed for continued observation of the COVID-19 protocols while calling for increased vigilance and surveillance to stem the surge.
