THE Guyana Prison Service has clarified that only two prisoners escaped from the Lusignan Prison on the East Coast of Demerara on Saturday and not three as they had previously indicated.

Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels in statement on Sunday apologised for misinforming the nation.
The two escapees have been identified as murder accused, 48-year-old Phillip Jhogroo of Goed Intent, Leguan, Region Three and Donald Baird, 40, of Hardina Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, who was imprisoned for murder.
The prisoners escaped using a rope made from bed sheets early Saturday from the Lusignan Prison holding bay. Samuels had said that the escape took place sometime between 01:28hrs and 01:48hrs on Saturday.
The Guyana Prison Service is urging all family members and members of the public not to offer any support to the escapees and to contact the nearest police station with any information pertaining to their whereabouts.
