… Play at Everest abandoned

THE opening round of GCB Over-40 T20 tourney, bowled off yesterday despite the inclement weather, with strong wins for West Demerara Mavericks and Jai Hinds Masters.
At Enmore ground, West Demerara Mavericks posted 94 for 6 in 15 overs with Lalta Sukhandan striking two fours and a six in his top-score of 40. Support came from opener Manishram Balgobin, who earlier set the tone with 35.

They were then sadly kept to 73 for 8, losing by 21 runs, despite a fighting 31 from opening batsman Mohammed who returned to show his class with the bat.
The Mavericks bowling was led by Nijel Vieira who snatched up 2-10 with three other bowlers grabbing one scalp apiece for good measure.

It was a high-scoring affair at the Jai Hind ground in Berbice, where home team Jai Masters, piled on 139 for 6 in 15 overs, thanks mainly to a half-centurion Kamraj Sumair who thumped 2 fours and 6 sixes in his 58.

Zahir Moakan pummelled an unbeaten 40 not out with 3 fours and 2 sixes, as Winston London returned 3-8 amidst the carnage for GM Masters.
In reply, GM Masters could muster only 110 for 3 with Daram Hemraj, the lone star carrying his bat with 40 not out, as his team suffered a 29-run loss.
