Guyana Restaurant Week returns under strict COVID-19 protocols

Food lovers will once again get the opportunity to indulge in several culinary cuisines for reduced prices at one of Guyana’s most highly anticipated tourism events of the year, Guyana Restaurant Week (GRW).

The event starts today and will continue to November, 29, 2020.
According to the President of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) Mitra Ramkumar, 15 restaurants will be participating in this year’s event and Guyanese will not miss a beat even with the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“[Guyanese] can look forward to having fine dining experience although it’s going to be outdoor, we are going to make sure that persons have that fine dining experience and as well, we are looking forward to tantalise their taste buds,” he said adding:

“Many of the chefs are looking forward for it, they are proud to be using their creative of course using local ingredients and dishing some really fabulous meals.”
Additionally, Ramkumar told the Buzz that all COVID-19 protocols will be observed and dining will be done outdoors. “All of the protocols are out there from the Ministry of Health, PAHO/WHO and the Caribbean Public health agency, our website also speaks about COVID-19. We have taken the extra step, so that persons can be comfortable and come out and dine in a safe environment,” he stated.

Despite not having the first season earlier in the year, Ramkumar reassured that this season will be perfect since it will be ushering the Christmas season.
“It is a good time, it’s the near ending of the year so you are getting into that Christmas spirit it also creates an avenue for you to come out and socialize but socialize in a safe way,” he said.
Given the situation with the pandemic, the THAG president disclosed that GRW has added pick-up and delivery services to its agenda, so persons can still enjoy the excitement of fine dining and delicious meals from the comfort of their homes.

“We have actually employed the services of two delivery service providers…if you can’t come to us we will come to you,” Ramkumar stated. It’s easy, you can go to Guyana’s Restaurant Week’s website and you can explore right there, you can explore the restaurants, you can explore the menus that they have and then you can choose. You can have different ones on different days and you don’t even have to leave your home.”
