Alleged knife-point robber remanded

A man, who allegedly robbed two persons at knifepoint, on Monday, appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was remanded to prison.

Colwin Harding, 30, pleaded not guilty to two counts of robbery under arms which were read to him by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs – Marcus

It is alleged that Harding, on November 10, while in the company of others and armed with an offensive weapon, specifically a knife, robbed Rohan Seegulan of one cellular phone valued at $29,000, two silver metal chairs valued at $15,000, and $40,000 cash.

Further, it is alleged that on the same day, while armed with a knife, he robbed Sharmila Aleem of one cellular phone valued at $30,000, one shoulder bag valued at $5000, and $70,000 cash.

Prosecutor Inniss told the court that the two victims were walking along Croal Street when three males suddenly appeared. The robbers relieved them of the articles mentioned in the charges and made good their escape. The incident was reported to ranks of the Brickdam Police Station.

The police, acting on information received, arrested several persons who were in the area where the robberies took place. One of them submitted a written statement in which he identified Harding by name as being one of the robbers. The witness also provided ranks with the names of the two accomplices.

Harding was subsequently arrested and charged.

Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus adjourned the matter to December 21.
