BARBADOS Aquatics said it is willing to host the 2021 Carifta Swimming Championships next Easter once the governments of the participating nations agree to certain travel protocols. The meet would be held from April 3-6, 2021.

The 2020 championships were cancelled earlier this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but according to BA President Tony Selby, Barbados is already staging swimming competitions, according to BA President Tony Selby, who said it would now be up the leadership of the participating nations.

“We already have protocols in place. It is now to get to the governments to agree that the athletes be pre-tested before so there would be no need for them to be tested here so they can go straight into competition,” Selby told Sportsmax.TV Monday.

According to Selby, the BA already has approval from their COVID-19 Task Force to have pool swimming and open-water competitions. As such, their short-course nationals to be held from December 1-6.

Elsewhere, a local club is also set to host a long course meet from December 11-13.

Sportsmax.TV also understands that BA have received approval from FINA to stage their long-course nationals from March 2-7 as well as Carifta as these meets have been FINA approved as qualifying meets for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

It is now down to the governments to decide if what is being proposed is acceptable to all concerned.
