POLICE are investigating the murder of 19-year-old Sanjay Hanoman, also known as Drill, who was, allegedly, chopped by another teenager, on Sunday night, at Bus Shed Street, Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that Hanoman, a construction worker, who resided at Fourth Street, Anna Catherina, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Leonora Diagnostic Centre. The 19-year-old suspect has since been arrested.
According to the police report, Hanoman and the suspect were observed standing on the road at around 23:30h by one of Hanoman’s friends. The friend told the police that he saw the suspect with what appeared to be a cutlass in his hand.
The friend alleged that the suspect chopped Hanoman on the left thigh and the latter collapsed. The suspect then rode away on a bicycle with the object in his hands.
The friend said he tried to render assistance to Hanoman who was bleeding profusely, but he was unable to do so by himself since no one else was willing to help transport him to the hospital.
About one hour later, Hanoman was taken to the Leonora Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Hanoman’s body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour awaiting a post mortem examination.
