GUEST player Chandrapaul Hemraj blasted a quick-fire unbeaten century to lead the Dilly XI (Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club) to an emphatic victory over Ramano XI, recently in the 12th annual Ramano Memorial T30 clash at the Cricket Cage at Baisley Park in New York.
Ramano Shahid, who died in a tragic car accident in 2007, was a young New York and USA wicketkeeper/batsman who went on tours in England and the Caribbean.
The youngster’s father, Rashid Mohammed Shahid, was a popular wicketkeeper in Guyana back in the 70s and 80s.
The Richmond Hill Liberty Cricket Club, Hafeez Ali of Rockaway Group of Companies and the parents of Ramono made the 12th edition of the memorial match possible.
In the game, which was played with 17 players per side, Dilly XI batted first and scored 243-13.
National batsman Hemraj struck an even century before retiring hurt. In his 48 balls at the crease, he clobbered 10 sixes and four fours.
A few of the other batsmen had starts, but none dominated like Hemraj.
Michael Sultan was the pick of the Ramano XI’s bowling attack with 4-10 from three overs.
In reply, Ramono’s XI were restricted to 197. Michael Sultan led with 53 runs, while G Motie added 45.
Terrence Madramootoo and T. Haley did the damage with the ball, grabbing 4-15 and 3-19 respectively for the eventual winners.
