Alleged mastermind, accomplices remanded

THREE men were on Friday remanded to prison for the murder of Canadian Citizen Nicholas Jaipaul, whose badly burnt remains were ound in a clump of bushes on the Moleson Creek Public Road, East Berbice Corentyne days after he was reported missing.

Monasar Beharry, called ‘Brickhead’

The alleged mastermind, Monasar Beharry, called ‘Brickhead’, and his two accomplices, Charran Shedhan, called ‘Vickey’, and Aszim Shivgobin, called ‘Blackie’, appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the case was heard via ‘Zoom’.
The trio was not required to plead to the capital offence, which alleged that between August 16 and 20, at Moleson Creek, they murdered Jaipaul.
Beharry was represented by Attorney-at-law Bernard DaSilva, in association with Attorney-at-Law Sanjeev Datadin, while Shivgobin was represented by Attorney-at-Law Patrice Henry. Shedhan was unrepresented.

The men were remanded to prison until October 15, 2020, when the case will be called at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court.
Nicholas Jaipaul, 23, a Canadian citizen, arrived in Guyana in January and was scheduled to return in May. However, due to COVID-19 travel restrictions here and elsewhere, he was unable to leave the country. While here, he stayed at his 86-year-old grandfather, Ramkissoon Jairam at his Number 69 Village home on the Corentyne.

Charran Shedhan, called ‘Vickey’

Nicholas reportedly went missing on August 16,2020, and his badly burnt remains was found some four days later, among some old burnt-out tyres in a clump of bushes, some 30 meters from the Moleson Creek Public Road.

The Guyana Chronicle understands that the heinous act has to do with a matter currently engaging the attention of the court; essentially an old feud between Beharry and the victim’s grandfather.
Sources have revealed that Beharry owes Nicholas’ grand-daddy money for some rice land he rented from the old man some time ago, but feels he’s under no obligation to pay him for.

He allegedly contracted Shedhan to befriend, kidnap and kill the grandson of his archenemy as reprisal for his daring to take him to court and embarrassing him in the eyes of his family and fellow villagers. Shedhan also implicated Shivgobin in the crimes.
The two men had allegedly told investigators that Beharry promised to pay them $500,000 for doing the deed.
