A WOMAN is among four persons arrested and are being processed for court after they were caught dumping a bulky bag of six kilos of cannabis in the Berbice River Friday night.

The suspects, who were in a wooden vessel, were identified as a 25-year-old labourer of Canefield Village, East Canje; a 28-year-old logger of Edinburg Village, East Bank Berbice (EBB); a 39-year-old barber of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, and the lone female, age 39, unemployed of Edinburg.
Reports indicate that cops in Region Six were conducting a river patrol at about 22:15hrs in the vicinity of Sisters Village, EBB, when they observed one of the suspects dropping the bag in the river. The bag was retrieved and found to contain the illegal drugs.
Police further disclosed that in a separate event on Thursday last, ranks, during a mobile patrol, arrested a 31-year-old mason of Providence, East Bank Demerara after he was found with 23 pounds of ganja in three parcels on the Fort Wellington Public Road, West Coast Berbice.
Enquiries disclosed that while the ranks were on patrol on the said public road, the observed the suspect standing on the roadway with a black handbag. A search of the man and the bag was carried out and the illegal substance was found.
He is being processed for court.
