In Guyana when one thinks of music their thoughts immediately defer to soca or calypso, however, in recent years the music industry in this country has been expanding making room for new fresh faces with unique sounds.

One of those fresh faces is 20-year-old Quacey Welcome, better known as Jay Supreme, who describes himself as a versatile lyricist.
Welcome, who hails from New Amsterdam stated that he lives by the notion that he can do anything he puts his mind to by working hard. “I believe that hard work brings success making music and chasing my goals,” he said.

Like many young artistes, Welcome started making music during his high school days during his days at the at Berbice Educational Institute.
The young man told the Buzz that he would often come up with lyrics in his head during his spare time or whenever he was doing house chores, however, he never thought to pen those lyrics to paper up until about seven months ago.

It was around that time that Welcome started sharing his music with Guyana and the rest of the world via his social media platforms and YouTube. However, like many before him, the young artiste experienced a few challenges with some negative critiques which he noted contributed a great lot to his now-evolving career in music.
“[The] negative comments [were] about my material I was pushing out and low-quality recording, but the positive comments started to overshadow the negative ones and I invested in a better studio,” Welcome said.

He added that the support and comments he receives from his family and fans keep him motivated and push him to work even harder to unlock the great potential he has to make a name for himself alongside some of the greats on the international stage.

“The support I get that motivates me to keep going it is my incentive to be the international face of Guyanese dancehall music,” he said.
While his sound is versatile as he can perform, soca, hype and dancehall music, one of Welcome’s biggest goals is to put Guyana on the map for its unique dancehall sound.
The young man told the Buzz that he first realised his potential when one of the first songs he posted to his YouTube platform hot over 2,000 likes and had comments requesting more content from him.

Welcome, noted that this has motivated him to focus on his music more and become a positive role model for many young men like himself who aspire to make a career from their talents.
In advising new upcoming artiste said, Welcome simply said: “Always work hard and believe in yourself.”
