Guyana Records 22nd COVID Death

Guyana has recorded its 22ND COVID-19 death. The person has been identified as a 79-year-old male from Georgetown who died while receiving treatment in the COVID-19 ICU.

As of August 3, 2020, Guyana has recorded a total of 474 cases. The number of active cases in institutional isolation is 268 with 38 persons in institutional quarantine and 3 persons were previously in the COVID-ICU.

Guyana’s hinterland regions continue to be heavily impacted by the virus with 80 of the 268 active cases being recorded in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) alone.

The country recorded its 21ST COVID-19 death on Thursday, July 30 with the death of 34-year-old, Doodkumar Sookraj, from the East Bank of Demerara (EBD). Meanwhile, its 20th death was recorded days earlier in July 24, 2020. The victim was 36-year-old male from the North West District in Region One who died at the Georgetown Public Hospital from COVID-19 related complications.
