Essequibo Coast family robbed
…suspects arrested
A couple from Perservance village on the Essequibo Coast was Tuesday night beaten and robbed by armed bandits. The incident reportedly occurred around 23:00 hours at their residence.

According to information reaching Guyana Chronicle, Lorna Scott and Gordon Williams were beaten and robbed by three armed men who took away G$1M in cash, an undisclosed amount of US currency, and a quantity of gold jewelry. The known men were armed with a crowbar, a hammer, and a .38 revolver.

Police investigators disclosed that Scott and her husband with two family members were at home when the three men entered their home from a door located on the southern side of their home. The men then demanded cash and jewelry and started to tie the couple and their relatives. The victims sustained injuries about their bodies during the melee. Williams felt the brunt of the attack and remains a patient at the Suddie Public Hospital.

According to Scott, the thieves started to ransack their two-bedroom home while breaking their belongings. She recalled that the ordeal lasted for approximately 30 minutes after which the armed men exited through the said door. Several gunshots were fired in the air before they escaped to the Perservance beach.

The couple and the other relatives then managed to untie themselves. They immediately went to the Suddie Police Station and made a report.
Police visited the scene and the suspects were arrested and taken in custody.
