FIRE completely destroyed the home of a Mon Repos East Coast of Demerara family on Wednesday, leaving three persons homeless.
The owner of the home, Deopaul Omrow, who was still in shock, recalled the events. Omrow related that although he cannot confirm the cause of the fire, he believes strongly that the fire had started from an electrical point that was on the outside of the home. He stated that he was in the upper flat of the home when his son who resides at the bottom flat alerted him of the fire. He and his son then exited the building and neighbours along with the family members formed a fire brigade in an effort to put out the blaze.

He told the Guyana Chronicle that by the time he was alerted to the fire, the blaze had become uncontrollable and as such he was unable to save any of the items of his home. The elderly man stated that he, along with his three adult children, one of whom is working on the river presently, all reside at the home and have lost all of their belongings. The family stated that they would welcome any assistance that members of the public would offer them in this difficult time and said that they can be contacted on 220-9120. The Guyana Fire Service is currently investigating the origin of the fire.
