IN a press release, yesterday (Thursday, June 11) the citizens of Georgetown were informed of an amnesty on interest offered by the City Council. The release stated that ……The Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown have recognized that many of its citizens are experiencing financial constraints and it is imperative that financial assistance be provided, and, in light of the (COVID-19) Pandemic and the financial strain persons are faced with, the Council is offering amnesty on interest on general rates for the year 2020.The Council is encouraging rate-payers who have outstanding rates for 2020 to make use of this offer.

The City Treasurer’s Department will be opened to the public for the payment of rates and taxes from Monday to Friday each week. This service is available from 08:30 hours to 13:30 hours daily. Persons who wish to make payments must observe the following precautionary guidelines: hand washing, wearing of face mask, and social distancing.  Due to COVID-19 the Council has not provided a cut-off point for the Amnesty.
