East Canje female in police custody for unlicensed firearm

AN East Canje female is in police custody, following discovery of an unlicenced firearm. The arrest took place on May 29, 2020, when Police, acting on information, went to the home of a farmer at DeVeldt, Berbice River, to conduct a search for arms and ammunition.

Upon arrival, the officers were made aware that the individual was not at his home. His female sibling who resides in East Canje, and was present at the time, handed over to the ranks an unlicenced pistol.

She has since been detained, and efforts are being made to contact her brother for questioning.

The said ranks then proceeded to another house in the Berbice River at Bartica Village where they conducted a search and found twenty kilograms of suspected cannabis, packaged in twenty-three parcels, as well as twenty pounds of suspected dried cannabis.

The estimated street value of the items is $1,600,000.00. An unlicenced shotgun, and several identification documents in favour of the occupant who is presently being sought, were also found.

The GPF has stated that Investigation is ongoing.
