Region 6 Health Services begin temperature screening at Berbice Bridge

ON Friday, the Region 6 Health Services began temperature screening for persons in vehicles in the vicinity of the Berbice River Bridge, in the East Berbice / Corentyne district.
The exercise, which commenced at 06:00hrs, concluded twelve hours later with over 1000 travellers being screened by health care officials.

Medical personnel, armed with thermometer guns, pointed the device to the body from a distance, and, in so doing, measured the body temperature.

Typically, an elevated temperature is thirty eight (38C) degree Celsius or 100.4 degree Fahrenheit, or over.

Should there be an elevated temperature, further medical intervention will be needed.
Director of the Region Six Health Services, Mr Jevaughn Stephens, said additional testing sites will be established at Springlands where persons travelling from the Upper Corentyne communities will be screened.

He explained that the exercise initially targeted drivers who were issued thereafter with wristbands.

However, whenever there is a bridge closure, passengers will be screened during the traffic build up.

Meanwhile, Region Six recorded its first and only Covid-19 case in March. The victim has since died. Since then, several persons were placed in home and institutional quarantine. However, to date that number has been reduced to one.
