DEEMED the number one hotspot in the Caribbean for eco-tourism, the Guyana Tourism Authority, along with the Ministry of Business, on Thursday morning, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Guyana Georgia Tourism and Business Authority.
The inaugural ceremony which also saw the launch of the hotspot 2020 tourism magazine was held at the Cara Lodge Hotel where the Minister of Business, Haimraj Rajkumar, in his feature address, expressed immense pleasure with the newest achievement of tourism and business sector.

“As minister I would wish to applaud this achievement, on behalf of the government of Guyana. I would wish to express our full appreciation to the efforts made by the parties on both sides to make this signing a reality,” he stated.

The minister further stated that the signing of the memorandum will set the stage for tourism-related business across the country, “this morning [we] will be laying a solid foundation, for outcomes and initiatives in tourism and business that will add value to the tourism sector in Guyana, as well as lift business opportunities among ranks of the diaspora and investors from the State of Georgia.”

Minister Rajkumar noted that the Ministry of Business and the Department of Tourism were committed to doing work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Citizenship and the Regional Tourism entities, to generate a complete and reliable data about diasporic organizations and communities, so as to enhance the tourism and business relationship.
Additionally, the President the Guyana Georgia Tourism and Business Authority (GGBTA), Stacey Mollison, an overseas-based Guyanese, during brief remarks at the ceremony, noted that the GGTBA will not only underscore leisure tourism but also medical and business tourism, where medical personnel will visit the country to assist local doctors and medical practitioners to improve the country’s health sector.

Noting that Guyana is a country of many beautiful creatures, waters and forestry, Ms. Mollison stated that GGTBA will also promote tourism in fishing, as the country is known for its magnificent beast in the waters.

Meanwhile, Director General of Tourism, Mr. Donald Sinclair, related that the signing of the MOU and the launching of the tourism ‘hotspot’ magazine marked a significant milestone as Guyana continued to grow in relation to tourism and business. The magazine, which he added highlights the various hotspots in all ten of the administrative regions, saw representatives from each region composing a project which highlighted a tourist attraction in their respective regions.

Mr. Sinclair, during the simple ceremony, related to the ambassadors of the various regions in attendance that the aim was to get Guyana on the international market in terms of business and tourism. He added that Guyana was our product and we must promote, sell and share our product to the rest of the world, so foreigners can see the beautiful fauna and flora Guyana has to offer.
