THE Guyana National Youth Council (GNYC) launched its ‘Ink It Up’ Voter Education tour bus and mascot, on Monday, as a vibrant and engaging means to inform Guyanese about the importance of their participation in the electoral process.

The launch took place at the National Park and especially targets young persons, first time voters, women and indigenous Guyanese ahead of the March 2, 2020 General and Regional Elections.

The brightly decorated bus will serve as a safe space for persons to receive information and is equipped with Wi-Fi so that electors can check for their names on the Official List of Electors (OLE) while visiting the bus.

Meanwhile, Benny the Ballot Box will lead the group’s Mash Float on February 23, using the occasion to further sensitise Guyanese about the electoral process. “The concept of this activity is to organize mobile voter education events in the major towns and villages of Guyana within the month leading up to the 2020 General and Regional elections. The proposed activities will leverage local and national institutional relationships as facilitated by the GECOM and GNYC to provide a platform for civic engagement and learning focused on the electoral process,” the GNYC stated.

The GNYC has been working closely with the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) regarding its materials while it is constantly promoting its messages through radio, social media and its voter education booth. At the function, it was announced that Roderick Allicock was the winner of the ‘Ink It Up’ Campaign Jingle Competition and his original song will be played along the GNYC campaign.

GNYC’s overall national youth-led Civic and Voter Education Campaign was launched earlier in February at Moray House under the theme “Ink It Up: Your Voice. Your Vote”. Trained young people are in the process of hosting Voters’ Villages in public spaces in a pop-up format. These pop-up events are being conducted at various marketplaces, bus parks and shopping malls geared at attracting high volumes of youth. It features games, mini-talks and mock polling stations to educate individuals on what happens on the day of elections and the voting process.
