— following Giftland Mall robbery
GTT Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Justin Nedd, has underscored safety of his employees as a major concern following a robbery at GTT’s booth at the Giftland Mall on Monday evening.
Speaking with reporters after the company’s Pinktober Sponsor Recognition Ceremony on Tuesday at the Herdmanston Lodge, Nedd described the incident as disappointing and troubling.
He noted that the company will put systems in place to guarantee the safety of its employees.
“What’s troubling is what we face in society today, where people can be crazy enough to go into a public space and traumatise people that are around. But our first and immediate concern is for our staff and their security, so we will be taking the necessary measures to ensure not only the physical safety of our staff, but the psychological safety. Because being robbed at gunpoint is very traumatising,” Nedd told reporters.
He said the amount of money that was stolen is not yet confirmed, as they are still in the process of assessing the losses. However, he noted that no one was harmed and hopes that the two robbers are caught and brought to justice.
Just around 21:30hrs on Monday, while customers flocked the kiosk to pay their bills, two men walked into the mall and one of whom was armed, pounced on the cashier. One of them pointed the gun at him (the cashier) while another retrieved the cash.
The entire incident was caught on camera and the two men, who appear to be in their 20s, caused a commotion, as the customers were seen scattering across the mall when the firearm was being brandished by one of the bandits.
