… Tournament to kick off tomorrow

TWENTY-FOUR Futsal teams will compete in this year’s Magnum Mash Cup, which will kick off tomorrow at the National Gymnasium and conclude on February 22.

Seven hundred thousand dollars ($700 000) will be awarded to the winning of tournament, which is in its third year, while $400 000 will go to the team finishing second. Third- and fourth-place teams will go home with $200 000 and $100 000 respectively.

Group-A will bring together Back Circle, Sparta Boss, Ansa McAl All-Stars and Bad-A-Yard; Group B comprises Rio All-Stars, Leopold Street, Spartacus and Melanie, while Group C features Future Stars, Alex Village, Spot-7 and Mocha.

In Group D, Bent Street will do battle with Showstoppers, North East La Penitence and Avocado Ballers meet, and in Group E, Sophia will face-off with Broad Street, Kingston challenge Island All-Stars.

Gold is Money, Albouystown, Stabroek Ballers and Belfield were drawn in Group F

Following opening day’s action, matches will be played on Tuesday January 28, Thursday January 30, Saturday February 1, Tuesday February 4, Thursday February 6 (Round-of-16), Saturday February 8 (Quarterfinals), Saturday February 15 (Semi-Finals) and Saturday February 22, 2020 (Final).

According to the organisers, the event will be coordinated in accordance with the established International Football Federation (FIFA) and Guyana Football Federation (GFF) rules.

Last year, Sparta Boss edged Back Circle in a dramatic penalty shootout to be crowned Champions. (Rawle Toney)
