…Focuses on youth involvement and empowerment

WHEN Quinton Pearson planned to launch his first-ever fashion show, his vision was for the event to be more than just a runway event. Determined to prove that young people can indeed achieve spectacular feats once they put their minds to them, the 27-year-old designer decided to have his entire team for the House of Pearson Couture Show scheduled for February 15, 2020, at the Ramada Princess Hotel, made up of millennials.
“No one is older than 30 years old on this team,” Quinton Pearson told the Pepperpot Magazine. “People usually talk about how young people can’t do things on our own and can’t be disciplined and have always underestimated what I can do. So I had to go out and create something that people thought was impossible and that is how the idea of having an all-millennial team came up. I needed young people who are positive, focused and who want to get out there and get something done.”

The House of Pearson Couture Show team comprises its executive committee along with 75 models and 60 volunteers. The volunteers are all understudying real professionals in the area of fashion, makeup artistry, décor, stage production, event planning and public relations and are gaining real-life experience as they prepare for the show on February 15. Quinton said that several young people have so far gained positive experience to help them with their careers. “One model who also signed up to be a volunteer decided to take on full-time volunteering on the makeup team because she wants to make that her career. There are also young people studying to be doctors who are still very motivated to be part of the production and are even ensuring that they are present at every rehearsal, although they have to study for exams that will be held up to two days before the show,” Quinton said, adding that there are also numerous young people who are still in school, but who are volunteering to get some professional experience as well.
