MORE drains and trenches will be cleaned and bushes will be removed in the New Year, as the Region Two Administration renewed the contracts of some 300 trench cleaner on Thursday.
Region Two, Regional Executive Officer, Denis Jaikarran, told the workers that the regional administration, under the Agriculture Programme, is pleased to renew the contracts of the workers and reminded them of their duties to maintain the waterway.
Jaikarran told the contractors that the administration is spending money to ensure that every corner in the region is clean and residents are provided with proper drainage and irrigation services.
After the trenches are cleaned, he said engineers and rangers within the various communities usually do field visits to ensure everything is in order. He said once a trench is not cleaned satisfactorily, the contractor will not be paid.
At the end of the signing, trench cleaners left the boardroom very satisfied. Previously, their payments were delayed and many of them became edgy. The regional administration has since taken corrective measures and payments are done promptly. Many of the contractors expressed gratitude to the administration for providing them with a job that helps them to maintain their livelihood.
