Dear Editor,
I HAVE noticed that Leslie Ramsammy is trying hard to be noticed from his foreign home base in the north, by throwing a letter or two weekly at the APNU + AFC Government. In his latest he claimed that the coalition has failed to keep “100% of its promises for the first 100 days in office.”
The thing is that the coalition has kept more than 100% of its promises. There are buses, bicycles, boats for schoolchildren, and internet connection for all schools which were not promised. The coalition promised to reduce the Berbice Bridge toll. That was done! It promised “significant” salary increases, also done with minimum wage going up 77% in four years – from $39,000 to $70,000 monthly.
It promised to: (a) increase old age pension– done! (b) Reduce Jagdeo’s pension package– done! (c) Establish passport offices in the counties– done! (d) Hold local government elections– done! (e) Establish public procurement commission–done! (f) Introduce Code of Conduct and re-establish Integrity Commission– done! (g) Implement anti-money laundering process–done! And the list goes on, Dr Ramsammy.
Your “fulminations” are only those of a failed wanna-be politician. You failed to unseat Dr. Jagan with your Republican Party, and instead joined up with the People’s Progressive Party (PPP). You failed as Health Minister and under your watch the Health Ministry was burnt to the ground.
You failed as Minister of Agriculture by not protecting the Venezuelan market for rice. Under your watch, the Petro Caribe fund was bankrupted; under your watch GUYSUCO was bankrupted and indebted to the tune of $85 billion; under your watch sugar workers were reduced to nothing. It is folks like you, Dr. Ramsammy, who contribute to Guyana being a failed state under the PPP, but you have jumped ship. So it is safe to ruminate from abroad.
Regards,
Rovin Singh
