AS it wraps up its voyage in Brazil, Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating book fair, will dock in Port Georgetown on December 2nd for a week.
Boasting hundreds of various titles of affordable books, the vessel will be stopping here before moving onward to St Vincent and the Grenadines. It will moor at the GNSC wharf at La Penitence and members of the public will be charged a fee of $200 to board the vessel.
Project Manager of the Guyana leg of the trip, Marjolein Rutger, told this publication, on Friday, that the Logos Hope will be in Georgetown from December 2 until December 8.
On the first day of its arrival, the ship will be open to the public from 18:00 hrs until 21:00 hrs and thereafter, each day from 10:00 hrs until 21:00 hrs. On the last day of its stay, it will be open from 14:00 hrs until 21:00 hrs.
“It’s always what you would expect from a book fair, where we would have over 5000 different titles of books; it’s a whole new collection of books,” Rutger said. She said that there is a discount-item section as well as a story on the wall called the “journey of life.”
As regards the types of books she said that,” we are a very family-oriented book fair so we try to have a book for every member of the family.”
There is a theatre on the third deck of the Logos Hope and here is an event called “Meet the world” which will be performed by crew members where they share their knowledge of cultures of different people across the globe.
The crew will also host a two-hour show –The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe- on the last day of its stay here.
Rutger, who has been on the ship some three years now, noted that there are 400 persons on board the ship. She said most of the crew members are volunteers and they are all in their youthful years.
She said another sibling sailed on the ship before her and she was able to see what happens onboard, including the humanitarian work of crew members.
While in Guyana, the crew members of the Logos Hope will be visiting communities to partake in humanitarian activities.
The Logos Hope replaced the Logos 11 in 2004. The vessel is managed by German charitable organization, GBA Ships.
