SYSTEMS analyst of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT), Shevon Morris, has attained a master’s degree in Information Systems Management from the Brunel University, in London.
Morris, who benefitted from a GTT scholarship, has been an employee of the company for over eight years.
According to a press statement from GTT, Morris expressed her gratitude to the company for giving her the opportunity to study abroad and expand her knowledge.
“To know that my workplace has my best interest at heart was moving and I will forever be grateful for the support given to my professional growth,” Morris said.
Morris said her recent studies provided the opportunity to examine the integration of people, processes and technology in an organisational context.
“I was able to reflect on existing processes and technologies utilised to carry out my duties. I immediately thought of ways to improve processes and how state-of-the-art technologies can be leveraged to achieve the company’s customer-focused vision,” she explained.
“GTT is extremely proud of Shevon; not only for successfully completing her master’s degree, but for fuelling the true meaning behind ‘Women in STEM’. In addition to congratulating Morris, he reiterated GTT’s general commitment to creating a workplace where employees are empowered, engaged and happy. As a technology company, GTT has specifically advocated for persons to be involved in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
In her role at GTT, Morris develops and maintains the data infrastructure of the company, which she uses to generate reports on the products and services of the company. These reports impact decision-making, strategy and adjustments to the benefit of customers.
