Several to be charged for miner’s death

SEVERAL persons are expected to be charged with murder and other offences as the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is expected to return the file on Tuesday in connection with the murder of gold miner, Deon Stoll.

Stoll, called “Mow”, 44, of Charity, Essequibo Coast, Region Two and Barima Avenue, Bel Air, Georgetown, died following a shootout with bandits during an attempted robbery on Da Silva Street, Newtown, Kitty, on Monday, October 14.

It is believed that the bandits had been tracking Stoll for a while and believed he had cash and raw gold when he was cornered. They did not cater for him fighting back.

Recently, Delon ‘Demon’ Morgan, who was wanted in connection with the murder was arrested by the police at a roadblock at Cove and John on the East Coast of Demerara.

He was reportedly wounded and was said to be the gunman who was caught on surveillance camera in a shootout with Stoll.

Morgan, along with others, planned the attack on Stoll as he and his driver arrived at El Dorado Trading, a gold-mining business on Da Silva Street.

Over the weekend police issued wanted bulletins for Morgan and another man, Lennox Estwick, age 23, of Lot 640 South Amelia’s Ward, Linden.

The bulletins were issued on Sunday last, one day after there was an exchange of gunfire between Estwick and a party of policemen.

Police investigators had received intelligence that Estwick was hiding out in Mackenzie, Linden; unfortunately though, he was able to evade the police.

Estwick has had several brushes with the law and was among the 14 males who were recently arrested as suspected gang members in Linden.

Reports indicate that along with Morgan, Dr Alonzo De Santos, Wayne St. Hill, Steve Rollox, and others that include a female are in police custody.

Dr. De Santos, who is also a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) reservist, allegedly treated the wounded bandit involved in the robbery. The doctor allegedly went to the bandit’s home in Sophia to administer treatment.

He did not report the matter to the authorities in accordance with established standard operating procedures.

Police found the getaway car just over a week ago abandoned at Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara.
