LJP delegation led by General Secretary John Flores meet the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Chairperson, Justice (ret'd) Claudette Singh & GECOM commissioners on Tuesday

Officials of the Liberty & Justice Party(LJP) on Tuesday met with the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

Justice (ret’d) Claudette Singh, chaired the meeting requested by LJP General Secretary John Flores. Senior Party members Davon Vanveen, Yvette Irving & Campaign Manager, Yvonne Cole made up the LJP delegation who accompanied Mr. Flores on this fact-finding mission.

Chief Elections Officer (CEO), Keith Lowenfield (through the Chair) answered all of the questions tabled by the LJP, with additional information given by several GECOM Commissioners in attendance.

The topics covered were the procedures of the Claims & Objections period with emphasis on the how to be included on the final voters list and the criteria to do so. According to JLP GECOM CEO posited detailed information on the electoral scrutineers and also the procedure & timetable for the production of the final Voters list. “The Liberty & Justice Party delegates were encouraged by GECOM’s commitment to share relevant electoral information with all parties. Moving forward, GECOM will invite all parties to electoral procedure seminars, the aim being to give information on what is required of a contesting party, roles and responsibilities & Nomination Day criteria and procedures,” the party said in a release.

According to the LJP GECOM commissioner, Vincent Alexander made it clear that scrutineers are entitled to scrutinise every transaction of the electoral period including during Election Day. It was noted by the LJP delegation that there are no independent scrutineers as they are sourced from parliamentary parties. The said the meeting was very fruitful and they look forward to continued interactions with GECOM and support any credible electoral process.
