MAKING an investment, no not a business investment, but an investment in kindness can go a long way in making someone’s day better and even taking them out of a rough patch.
Young, Rushumba Bacchus is one such person who is ready to invest her kindness and time into making someone’s life better.

“My passion is uplifting others. I feel that kindness is an investment that always pays back, not necessarily from the outside, but for one’s own peace of mind and soul,” said Bacchus.
While spreading her kindness is at the centre of what she does, Bacchus intends on applying it in her future career as a social worker.

“My aspiration is to become a social worker to help and protect the needs of people. Being a social worker I would be able to empower, motivate, encourage and advocate,” she said, adding that social workers fill the role of “making a difference on multiple levels.”
The young Mahaicony girl said she is motivated to become a social worker because she has a desire to help others and change society for the better. Her main focus will be on protecting children and families from harm.

She is empowering herself through academically by pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Guyana.

Her advice to other young people who are aspiring to become a social worker is to know yourself and know what makes you react the way you do.

“Use the experiences and knowledge you have and despite what you may think you, you do have skills, knowledge and experience…be passionate about what you do and love,” said Bacchus.
