Linden resident fined, to do community service for possession of cannabis

ON Monday, September 16, 2019 a linden man appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Marcus-Isaacs, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ court, to answer to a possession of narcotic charge.

29-year-old Yuriel Lewis of South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, admitted that, on September 16, 2019, he had in his possession three grams of cannabis.

Police prosecutor stated that, on the day in question, ranks of the McKenzie police station were on patrol in the vicinity of South Wismar, Linden, when they received information and proceeded to the defendant’s residence.

A search was conducted and two transparent zip lock bags were found in the defendant’s left front pants pocket, which contained leaves, stems and seeds believed to be cannabis.
When Lewis was asked about the said cannabis, he told the court “yes the weed is me own; I does use it to relax.”

Lewis was fined $12,000 fine and ordered to report weekly to the Wismar police station for community service and counseling for a period of six weeks.
