Bicycle thief gets six months in jail

MAGISTRATE Dylon Bess on Thursday, September 12, 2019, sentenced a 20-year-old mason to prison for stealing a bicycle.

John Cameron appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and requested to change his plea to guilty to the simply larceny charge.

Particulars of the charge alleged that, on June 8, 2019, at North Road, Bourda, he stole a bicycle valued at $22,500, property of Marlon Walcott.

Cameron asked the court if he could compensate Walcott for the bike but Walcott said that he wanted his bike back.

It is alleged that, on the day in question, around 8:00 hours, Walcott rode his bicycle to his work place and secured it. On checking for his cycle later, he discovered that it was missing.

It is also alleged that, a view from the Closed-Circuit Television Camera (CCTV) showed Cameron removing the cycle. The matter was reported and Cameron was arrested and later charged.

After Cameron changed his plea, Magistrate Bess sentenced him to serve six months’ imprisonment and placed him on a one-year bond to keep the peace.
