…to facilitate expansion works
PASSENGERS arriving and departing at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) will have to board and disembark from aircraft via the tarmac, temporarily, since use of the boarding bridges has been suspended to facilitate ongoing expansion works.
According to a release from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, the scheduled suspension is required to facilitate the execution of other works of the Airport Expansion Project.
“We sincerely apologise for this temporary inconvenience and would like to assure you that works will be done within the shortest time possible,” the ministry said.
“We thank the travelling public for their continued patience as we work to improve the facilities and services at CJIA,” the ministry stated.
Chinese firm-China Harbour Engineering Company – the contractor which has been undertaking the CJIA expansion project – is carrying out final works to the project.
Several major features of the expansion project, most of which have been completed, include the extension of the main runway from 7,500 feet to 10,500 feet; the construction of a two new parking bays for Code D and E aircrafts; the installation of passenger boarding bridges, a 450-person seating departure area; and escalators and elevators.
