First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger on Wednesday morning, received a courtesy call from 18 teenage girls participating in the Miss Guyana Teen Scholarship Pageant.

During the hour-long conversation, which was held in the Baridi Benab at State House, she advised them to never let anything restrict them. “You’re shaped by your environment but you don’t have to be confined by it… people become comfortable putting labels on other people because that’s how they can deal with you… You must ask yourself who am I and what do I want in this life, and you must always want a bit more, I want the women of Guyana to want a bit more,” Mrs. Granger said, while informing the teens that there are many careers available in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) sector.
During the conversation a range of topics were discussed including women’s empowerment, women in the arts, business and gender parity. (Ministry of the Presidency)
