3rd Urban Benjamin Memorial Road Race takes place in Essequibo tomorrow

FOR the third consecutive year, the Evolution Cycling Club will be staging the Urban Benjamin Memorial Road Race tomorrow on the roadways of the Essequibo Coast in Region Two.

The race will begin at 09:00hrs outside of Charity Primary School. The cyclists will head to Supenaam and return to finish at the starting-point, covering a distance of 74 miles.
Last year, Team Evolution wheelsman Christopher Griffith reigned supreme over 32 other competitors in the senior category. He won in a time of two hours 59 minutes 53 seconds.
In the Under-45 category, Warren ’40’ McKay beat Junior Niles; while Ian Jackson took top honours over Andrew Spencer and Amit Sankar in the Over-45 category.

In the junior category, Adelie Hodge defeated Ajay Gopilall and Ralph Seenarine while Ozia McAuly defeated Quincy Punch and Julio Melville in the Mountain Bike race.

The entrance fee is $2 000 per cyclist. Those desirous of participating in the race but need transportation to Essequibo are asked to assemble at the National Sports Commission on Homestretch Avenue before 06:00hrs today. The bus will depart promptly at o6:30hrs and a separate vehicle will carry the bikes.

All participants will be responsible for their own accommodation and meals in Essequibo.
The return ferry will depart at 16:00hrs tomorrow and it is the responsibility of each cyclist to be ready and be on the bus for the return trip at 13:00hrs.
