Denish Nunes, who was “busted” with over three kilogrammes of cannabis in his apartment was on Friday remanded to prison by Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus for drug- trafficking.
Nunes, 39, a labourer of D’Urban Street, Lodge, was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that, on June 7, 2019, at Durban Street, Lodge, he had 3.65 kilogrammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The man, who was unrepresented by counsel, pleaded with the court for his pre-trial liberty and explained that the apartment where the suspected drug was found does not belong to him.
Police Prosecutor Adduni Inniss however strongly opposed bail; Inniss told the court that on the day in question, a party of police officers went to Nuness Durban Street, Lodge apartment and conducted a search. Consequently, the cannabis was found in a barrel.
Inniss explained that Nunes was the only occupant of the room and failed to give good enough reasons for bail to be granted him. As a result, the acting chief magistrate denied Nunes bail and remanded him to prison until June 19, 2019.
