The various schools that will be participating in the ExxonMobil U-14 schools football tournament were handed balls for their preparation.

THE commencement of the much anticipated ExxonMobil U-14 schools football tournament will be delayed.

The event, which was scheduled to begin this weekend, has been shifted to the following Saturday on account of the inclement weather.

Organiser Petra, through its representative Mark Alleyne, confirmed the news yesterday during a tournament brief.

“We want to thank all the teams for coming down; we are sorry again for the shift but the weather has forced us.”

Meanwhile, teams were briefed on the tournament while those who require special assistance from the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) technical staff made their requests.
The teams also received a quantity of balls to bolster their training regimen.

During last week’s launch, the title sponsor’s representative Deadre Moe contended that they are more than willing to support youth development.

She stated that this tournament represents that, adding that the Petra Organisation has found a way to bridge the gap between Pee Wee and the old group.
ExxonMobil, she said, is looking for ways in which they can help other sporting disciplines to develop.

The tournament fixtures will be released shortly with the event expected to begin with a march past of school teams at 10:00hrs.
