– residents say prime suspect lives in the area
THE discovery of a stolen Toyota motorcar, which was found abandoned near the Guyana Defence Force Camp Stephenson base, at Timehri, on Friday, has led residents to believe that a key member of a carjacking ring is living in the area.
Their suspicions grew on Friday, after the car found in the area was listed as the fourth which have been abandoned, at a particular spot, close to the army base, adjacent to the Hill Top community at Timehri.
The car, a Toyota Premio, bearing registration PWW 5325 was found outside a gap which leads to several houses along a street in the area. The suspect, who lives along the gap, was allegedly seen running away on Wednesday night by a GDF rank.
On Friday, after a post with photographs of the car was made on social media, the owner of the vehicle, Kwame Sincliar, indentified it as his. The car was one of several items which were stolen from the man’s home at the Westminster Housing scheme on Tuesday night.
The businessman told another newscast that the car had a large sum of cash along with tools inside when the family went to bed that night. Sinclair told the newscast that he nor his family members heard any sounds on the night of the incident and this led him to believe that the thieves sprayed a substance inside the family’s home while they were asleep.
Residents of Timehri told the Guyana Chronicle that the prime suspect, who was seen running from the car, is no stranger to the police as he has been arrested on several occasions for break and enter and larceny.
A resident told this publication that some time ago, an airport employee who lives in an apartment along the road close to where the car was found, was at home one night when he felt a burning sensation in his nostrils. The man suspected that someone had sprayed a substance into his home and sometime later that night, he discovered that a section of the house was broken by persons unknown.
As regards the three other cars found in the area, residents said that the owners lived at Grove on the East Bank of Demerara and they too, reported that they went to sleep and had no recollection of what transpired until the following morning when they discovered that thieves had entered their home. They believe that the thieves sprayed a substance into their home.
A resident of Timehri reported that the suspect’s relatives have boasted that he has “connections” at the Timehri Police Station and that he is protected by persons there. They are calling on the authorities to investigate the recent matter with the hope of the suspect being arrested.
