Samuel Hinds Jr, the son of former President and Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, has found himself on the other side of the law once more after he allegedly whipped out a gun and pointed it at a party of uniformed police traffic ranks who were conducting an operation on Main Street, Georgetown early Thursday morning.

Reports are that the ranks had pulled over Hinds Jr and were  preparing to conduct a breathalyzer test on him when he began to resist the police ranks. The incident occurred around  02:00hrs on Thursday.

Reports are that the three police ranks were conducting a Driving Under Influence (DUI) exercise and during the exercise, the ranks  pulled over motorcar PNN 4446 and asked the driver to step out of the vehicle.

They subsequently requested that the man, identified as Hinds Jr, submit himself to a breathalyzer test but he reportedly refused and as efforts were being made to have him detained and escorted to the Brickdam Police Station, he reportedly whipped out a firearm and pointed it at the ranks.

At that point, the ranks  immediately called for backup from the Brickdam Police Station.Main patrol of ‘A’ Division titled “Impact Alpha” responded as they were the closest to the scene.

The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Brickdam Police Station where his firearm was confiscated and lodged. He was also found to be under the influence of alcohol, according to police sources.

Hinds Jr is no stranger to encounters with the law.In October 2015, Magistrate Annette Singh granted him bail in the sum of $50,000 after he submitted an appeal application on a two-month sentence for the unlawful wounding of his sister-in-law Tenza Layne.

He was also been fined $10,000 for using threatening language to Ms. Layne. Hinds had been found guilty by Former Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond in 2014 for threatening and wounding Layne causing her actual bodily harm on February 27, 2014 at 83 Duke Street, Kingston.

Chandan-Edmond was subsequently dismissed from her post by the Judicial Service Commission(JSC), days before she was expected to hand down sentencing in the case. A statement by the former magistrate through her attorney suggested that the action of the JSC was tied to the case of Hinds Jr.
