…driver flees scene
A resident of Charlestown, Michael Cozier, died during an accident at Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara, Sunday night.
According to information from the Guyana Police Force, Cozier was in a route 42 minibus BXX 3014 which was travelling at a fast rate, south along the eastern side of the road in the vicinity of the Guyana Defence Force Agriculture Corps when the driver lost control of the bus and ended up in a trench on the western side of the road.
Cozier was among seven passengers who were all injured in the accident. The police said that among the victims was a police constable, Linden Charles, who was stationed at the Mocha Outpost.
The injured passengers were rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where Cozier was pronounced dead on arrival. The constable and another passenger, Devon Benjamin were transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for more treatment.
Charles suffered from spinal injuries and Benjamin suffered from a fractured right hand. The other passengers were treated and sent away. The body of Cozier was taken to the Lyken Funeral Parlour. The driver reportedly fled the scene and left the injured passengers inside the minibus. Police are on the hunt for the driver of the vehicle, as investigations continue.
