THE development of Berbice Cricket continues at a rapid rate with the hosting of numerous cricket tournaments at all levels.
The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) last Thursday launched another tournament at the second division level for teams in the Upper Corentyne area.
The tournament is being sponsored by the Guyana National Newspapers Limited (GNNL) with support from the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS.
BCB president Hilbert Foster stated at a simple launching ceremony at GNNL head office that a total of 24 teams will participate in the historic tournament.
It is the first time that the popular 100 balls version will be played in the Upper Corentyne area. Foster stated that the board since 2018 has been hosting cricket in the sub-areas as part of its effort to promote the game at the grassroots level.
Foster hailed the outstanding work of the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association and stated that cricket in the Sub-Association was on the move.
Foster, who is a director at Guyana National Newspapers Ltd and Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club expressed gratitude to both organisations for sponsoring the tournament. Special thanks were extended to GNNL Chairperson Geeta Chandan-Edmond and acting General Manager Donna Todd.
Ms Todd noted that her company was pleased to be associated with Berbice cricket and expressed confidence that the tournament would be a successful one.
The 24 teams to play in the tournament are: Radha Krishna Academy, Crabwood Creek Sports Club, All Family CWC, Skeldon Titans CC, Bomb Squad, CWC, Dukestown Warriors CC, Scottsburg United CC, No. 73 Warriors CC, No. 72 All Stars CC, No. 70 MYO CC, No. 72 Cut and Load CC, No. 69 Vikings CC, No. 71 Sports Club CC, No. 70 Spartans CC, No. 70 Young Blood CC, No. 69 Red Rose CC, No. 68 Turn Team CC, No. 66 Giants, No. 48 Challengers CC, Yakusari Carib CC, No. 43 Scorpios CC, Yakusari Horizon CC, No. 68 Darkenders CC and No. 64 Fighting Marines.
