EMMANUEL Mc Cleod on Tuesday appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan at the Georgetown Magistrates Court to face the capital charge.
The 19-year-old miner was not required to plead to the charge, which read that on March 24, 2019, at 111 Miles, Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), he murdered Herbert Willie.

According to Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, on the day in question, Tuesday, March 19, 2019, around 02:00hrs, the police at Mahdia received information pertaining to a murder at 111 Miles. Acting on the information, they arrived at the scene and found a man’s body lying on the road, in the vicinity of the Mahdia Primary School.

According to a police report, Willie, the deceased, had been wounded with a sharp object. He was later admitted to the Georgetown Hospital, where he succumbed on March 24, 2019.

The police launched an investigation into the matter, during which they received information which lead to McLeod’s arrest.
McLeod was remanded to prison until his next court appearance on April 16, 2019.
