Doctor stationed at Wakapoa

RESIDENTS of the Arawak community of Wakapoa, Lower Pomeroon River, Region Two, no longer have to traverse the Pomeroon River to see a doctor at the Charity Oscar Joseph Hospital. They now have one stationed at their community health centre.

This announcement was made by Regional Executive Officer, Denis Jaikarran, during the recent commissioning of a multimillion-dollar bridge in that community.
He said government is doing everything possible to provide essential services to various communities, especially in the rural areas.  Solar panels will be installed at the health centre and doctor’s quarter in Wakapoa.

Meanwhile, the Region Two administration intends to extend the Wakapoa Secondary School, build a new sanitary block and do repairs to the primary school.
Toshao of the community, Howard Cornelius, said there has been improvement of health services in the remote community.

Previously, resident from Mayrie had to travel a long distance to access basic health services. Toshao Cornelius was happy that a doctor has been placed in the community to attend to residents and thanked the Regional Administration for making it possible.
