THE Skeldon District Hospital is the first medical facility in Region Six, East Berbice Corentyne, to receive a state-of-the-art digital laboratory.
Administrator of the Skeldon Hospital, Shurla Scott, explained that the new digital laboratory, which is fully equipped and completely furnished, will soon be commissioned by the Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence.

According to Scott, the laboratory will generate, store and process data (records and results) which will, in turn, allow the hospital to serve the residents of Upper Corentyne. The new digital lab will reduce the number of referrals to the New Amsterdam Hospital.

Scott also disclosed that staff within the hospital’s various departments will be trained to use the digital devices. According to the Director of Regional Health Services, Jevaughn Stephen, the goal is to streamline all the public hospitals in the region to be digitally equipped, a necessary step as the world continues to move forward technologically.
